Question #1 (1st period)

First and foremost, Between the World and Me examines how the idea of race has shaped America in the past, and how it continues to shape our country today.  In the first couple pages, abstract concepts such as “the dream,” vulnerable black “bodies,” and “people who believe themselves to be white,” are introduced, and then are used repeatedly throughout the book.  In this thread, you should discuss what you think Coates’ central argument is, and how he uses the above figures of speech (and others) to support his claims.
